Re: Maui slams??
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 3:50 PMAloha,
We have been holding regular poetry slams on Maui since April of 2005. Our next Slam is tomorrow night, Monday, March 26th 2007 at Moana Bakery and Cafe in Paia. Doors open at 6:30 and we fill up quickly. Conme join us. www.mauislam.com
Last month Paia welcomed Maui Slam with a packed house and stellar poetry from twenty-five competitors. Haiku Town performance poet and multiple Slam winner Jahsun took the $100 prize with a perfect 30.
On the last Monday of March, Jahsun will be at Moana Bakery & Café in Paia, defending his title and preparing for his trip in April, when he and Pat Masumoto compete on Oahu at Kealoha’s First Thursdays poetry slam, for a spot representing Maui on the 2007 Hawaiia National Poetry Slam team.
And if you want to spit your works, speak your mind or generally wax poetic; performance poets, spoken word artists and emcees are invited to perform original works of three minutes or less on any theme in competition for that $100 cash prize on Monday, March 26th, at the Moana Bakery and Café at 71 Baldwin Ave. in Paia. DJ Boomshot will be spinning from 6:30 on.
Doors open at 6:30PM and performer sign-up for a 7:30PM Slam. Special guests and randomly selected audience members will judge the event, so come down and enjoy some of the most talented and creative bards on Maui plus a surprise or two as Boomshot spins beats throughout the evening.
There is a five-dollar cover charge at the door for this event. Moana Bakery & Café’s kitchen is open as well as a full bar. Under 18 welcome in the company of a parent. For more information and rules go to www.mauislam.com, call 244-9091 or email mauislam@mauislam.com
